Sony's latest PSP firmware -- firmware 6.60 -- has been cracked wide open, which doesn't really surprise me. In a futile attempt Sony again changed up their keys -- keys that handle the encryption/decryption routines for said firmware -- and those keys are now present in Psardumper, letting you dump/decrypt 6.60 in its entirety. neur0n continues holdin' it down with yet another release: LCFW 6.39 ME-2 Installer for Official Firmware 6.39. It's beta and I'm not sure what the leading "L" stands for (maybe Lite?); nevertheless, ME-2 is now compatible with PSP-3000 models! Read more »
Grab your PSP, dosey dough, round and round and round we go... You're no doubt familiar with this scenario -- you've witnessed it countless times... Sony pushes a firmware update, and a day or two later, it's dumped & decrypted. This time 'round it only took like 24 hours. So kudos to you hrimfaxi -- you're the shit!
The technical deets:
In 6.30 firmware Sony has add two new types of PRX to protect their executable. But we only spend one day to crack that. Read more » Add to the list of what psardumper dumps & decrypts are PSPgo modules from firmware updates 5.70 to 6.20. You can thank coyotebean for finding these kernel keys. And before you ask: no -- this does not mean ISOs for PSPgo. It's for educational purposes and more the reverse engineering type. It's a good thing. It opens the door to manipulating and customizing your VSH/XMB... things like that.
How to use it: Download both psardumper and whatever firmware EBOOT. Copy the firmware EBOOT.PBP file to the root of your memory stick and install/run psardumper like any other homebrew. Read more »
Oooh, more good news... Released fresh from bbtgp is a new version of psardumper that, now correct me if I'm wrong, dumps and decrypts ALL (01g and 02g; not sure about 03g) files, including those in the latest 6.00 to 6.20 firmware updates. Couldn't have happened at a better time, you know, in the midst of all these save game exploits. Read more »
New to the scene -- Team Red Bull PSP -- or if you're Spanish, Equipo Red Bull PSP. Three days back they released a modified version of Dark_AleX's Despertar del Cementerio v8 allowing you to install Custom Firmware 5.50 the Pandora way. Read more »
Moving forward at Sony-sonic speed is Dark_AleX who has now successfully decrypted those modules specific to the PSP-3000.
Do note: this program is NOT for the PSP-3000 itself; it's intended to run on the PSP Fat (1000) or Slim (2000). Read more »
Sony releases a new firmware; Dark_AleX releases a new version of PSARDumper. Mind you -- PSP-3000 modules cannot be decrypted yet; not even their names. The keys for the file names table are in "mesg_led03.prx" of the PSP-3000; which again, cannot be accessed yet. Due to that you'll see various warnings when putting PSARDumper into action, i.e.) "could not find path of XXX."
The other change in PSARDumper: no more buffer limitation. Read more »
Over at PSP-GENERATION they've released a modified version of Red Squirrel's PSAR dumper. Ultimately "RSPsar Dumper" is responsible for dumping and decrypting Sony's latest firmware update (4.05).
Evidently there aren't many changes; so the likelihood of a custom firmware based on 4.05 is next to none. Read more »
Although it's likely to serve the average Joe no real purpose, PSARDumper marks a great achievement in the PSP hacking scene.
This current version dumps & decrypts PSP firmware 3.80. As well it decompresses the newly introduced compression algorithm called KL4E; noted here.
Email reports indicate the work of _HellDashX_, but I'm not certain -- no readme, no details, etc... Read more »
